About

Jason Wood

President and Principle Engineer

I am an IT professional specializing in systems administration and security in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. With ten years of experience working on Windows, UNIX and Linux systems I can offer you a high level of expertise and flexibility that you may not get from other service providers. Because I grew up working in a small family owned business I know many of the pressures that companies face. This background has heavily influenced my values as a consultant.

Experience

I have a broad background in technology, which has covered a large number of topics and projects. Some examples of successful projects are:

  • Multiple implementations of computer backup software using Veritas Netbackup, BackupExec and Legato Networker.
  • Upgrades and management of Cisco firewalls and network equipment.
  • Implementation of network connectivity between offices locations.
  • Management and implementation of web applications
  • Implementation of monitoring systems using open source applications.
  • Email system upgrades and migrations
  • Disaster recovery planning
  • Auditing of network perimeters

Presentations

I gave a presentation on using open source security software at the 2009 Utah Open Source Conference. The slides can be downloaded here. You can also check out the resources that I used on UTOS 2009 Presentation Resources.

In July, 2007 I spoke to the BuenaVentura chapter of the IEEE on wireless security and my remote controlled wireless detection vehicle. The slides for the presentation are available for you to read. The presentation was titled Wardriving by Remote Control. It all seemed to go over well and was a lot of fun to give.

Education

I have my Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science from California Lutheran University.

Research

My research interests are web application security and wireless network security. For more information about web application, read my paper Web Application Security: What is it and why is it important.
